Session 11

The Apostles Creed Study

1.      the forgiveness of sins,

10 For if when we were enemies we were reconciled to God through the death of His Son, much more, having been reconciled, we shall be saved by His life. 11 And not only that, but we also rejoice in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received the reconciliation.” (Romans 5:10-11 NKJV)

“If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” (1 John 1:9 NKJV)

Do you believe in the forgiveness of sin?  For this is a most important point.  Forgiveness of sin is not possible without the rest of the Apostle’s Creed, but without forgiveness of our sin the rest of the Creed is left short and “to us” meaningless!

Some will say this is too much or going too far, but without forgiveness it really doesn’t matter what we believe.  If what we believe about God does not draw us to God, convince us of our sin and bring us to confession and repentance than we will be the smartest and most disappointed people in hell!

In the Romans study we have looked at the tension of God as:

                        Just                                          Justifier

God is just so He cannot just forget about our sin or just let it go.  Yet God loves us and want to justify us so there had to be a way made.  Jesus died to pay for our sin and literally die in our place.  So God can justify us and still remain just as in Jesus we are made just!

Define confess.  What does it mean to confess our sins?

Define forgiveness.

What is the difference between forgiveness and to be cleansed?

Should we forgive others if you have been forgiven?

Are some things beyond forgiveness?
