Session 9
The Apostles Creed Study
1.
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
“The earth was without form, and
void; and darkness was on the
face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the
waters.” (Genesis 1:2 NKJV)
The Holy Spirit
is God, has always been God and will always be God. We see the first mention of the Holy Spirit
being not only present but actively involved in Creation. I am not sure what the action of “hovering”
was. Maybe it is a sign that the Holy
Spirit would always be stirring things up!
The Holy Spirit
interacted with fewer people in the Old Testament. Kings, Judges, Priests and Prophets seemed to
be the vast majority of those who were “stirred up” by the Holy Spirit. There are those like King Saul who seemed to
be touched by a very different spirit.
With the coming
of the Christian Pentecost the Holy Spirit “stirred up” everyone who came to
Jesus. Many times in Acts we see the
Holy Spirit being received by individuals and even into new communities.
After Pentecost
we see the amazing change in each person filled with the Holy Spirit.
Paul spends
much of his teaching on the Holy Spirit and how He will work in a Christian’s
life and within community.
“"But you shall receive power
when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in
Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth."”
(Acts 1:8 NKJV)
Is the Holy
Spirit a He, She or It?
How is the Holy
Spirit stirring things up in your life?
How is the Holy
Spirit stirring things up in your family?
How is the Holy
Spirit stirring things up in your congregation?
