“Have you
not known? Have you not heard? Has it not been told you from the beginning?
Have you not understood from the foundations of the earth? It is He who sits above the circle of
the earth, And its inhabitants are
like grasshoppers, Who stretches out the heavens like a curtain, And spreads
them out like a tent to dwell in. He brings the princes to nothing; He makes
the judges of the earth useless. Scarcely shall they be planted, Scarcely shall
they be sown, Scarcely shall their stock take root in the earth, When He will
also blow on them, And they will wither, And the whirlwind will take them away
like stubble. “To whom then will you liken Me, Or to whom shall I be equal?” says the Holy One. Lift up your eyes
on high, And see who has created these things,
Who brings out their host by number; He calls them all by name, By the
greatness of His might And the strength of His power; Not one is missing.” (Isaiah 40:21-26 NKJV)
There is the story of a woman who seeing a beautiful
garden went to the gardener and gushed “Oh, this is so beautiful! It looks like someone waved a magic wand and
made it grow!” The gardener drily
responded “Yes madam, it was me and the magic wand was this hoe.”
God is constantly working to nourish and provide for we
who are mere grasshoppers who think we are the great shapers and molders of our
world. All of our power quails upon a
drought, floods, hurricanes, earthquakes, volcanoes and so many other “natural
events” we see all around us.
Much of our power is to destroy and kill while even in
the many natural events there is a long term improvement in creation. Some will call this idea ridiculous but if
one looks over the centuries you can see this.
Many exceptions to this are not really natural event but the destructive
actions of humanity.
Too often we are too busy looking down on others to look
up to see the glory of God! We often are
too busy looking either what we have done or what we think we need to do to see
all God has done for us and is doing! We
don’t need to stop and smell the roses as much as we need to stop and
experience all the God who knows you by name is doing!
Without God our lives are like stubble withered by God
and cast about by the whirlwind. We have
no place to stand and not even a place to land.
Every twist and turn is just part of the whirlwind of our lives. This whirlwind extends to all of creation in
our times and explains the confusion and division we see around us.
Will you look up and in God’s glory will you receive the
foundation found in Jesus and receive his life which will rescue you from the
confusion and division all around you?
Another bad day but I was
able to get started on my cards. Hope
will be well enough get some sent off tomorrow.
I spent most of afternoon in bed.
Rev Tom Underwood called and we had a good visit. I so appreciate him and his family. So many get caught up in life and you can get
forgotten.
