“The next day a great multitude that had come to the feast,
when they heard that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem, took branches of palm trees
and went out to meet Him, and cried out: “Hosanna! ‘Blessed is He who comes in the name of the
LORD!’ The King of Israel!” Then Jesus, when He had found a young donkey, sat
on it; as it is written: “Fear not, daughter of Zion; Behold, your King is
coming, Sitting on a donkey’s colt.” His disciples did not understand these
things at first; but when Jesus was glorified, then they remembered that these
things were written about Him and that
they had done these things to Him.” (John 12:12-16 NKJV)
When a king or a president comes to
a town there is usually a great amount of pomp and circumstance to honor if not
the person than the position. The
leadership of the city will welcome their leader to their city and share a
welcome and honor them.
When Jesus entered Jerusalem no
leader came out to honor Him, only the people of the city and the
pilgrims. No leader came to welcome
Jesus and the welcome was given by people laying their garments and palm branches
before Jesus.
We are used to Pope Mobiles, bullet
proof limo’s and expensive aircraft to carry leaders to or into a city. But Jesus had to borrow a young donkey to
ride into what truly is His city. The
entrance by the King of Kings and Lord of Lord’s was remarkable in its
simplicity rather than its pomp.
When a king enters a city it is a show
of power and might as well as an expression of their ability to take a city as
well as keep it under their power. They
must both awe and bring fear to the crowd to display their power to keep their
power.
Jesus came into Jerusalem in the
totally opposite way and as the scriptures states came to bring hope and not
fear! Jesus declares an eternal and
overcoming power which is available to us by faith and love.
When you allow Jesus into your heart
your King arrives without pomp but with a cleansing love that casts out
fear. The simplicity of God’s entrance
into your life is not a sign of weakness but an understanding that God is so
powerful there is no need to express it!
Has your King entered your
life? Have you been still before God so
you can experience the presence of God?
Have you given God the key to your life and the Throne of your heart?
Today is a very rough
day. The pain is bad but God’s grace is
enough – and more!
