“My little children, these things I write to you, so that you may not sin. And if anyone sins, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous. And He Himself is the propitiation for our sins, and not for ours only but also for the whole world.” (1John 2:1-2 NKJV)

Jesus is the Living Word and the Bible is the written Word of God.  God reveals to us that words have meaning and their meaning is important.  Language is both and art and a science that enables to express ourselves to ourselves, to others and to God.  But even more important is the way God communicates with us.

This passage is full of words we often think we know but as some would say do we know what we think?  Let us look at some of these words that are at the core of faith in God.

Sin – comes from an archery term meaning to miss the mark which helps us understand do what goes against God.

Advocate – One summoned to plead your acre before a Judge, like a lawyer.  One who intercedes on your behalf and is a helper.

Righteous – Means to do right and to live rightly, one having passed judgment and one who keeps God commandments.

Propitiation – You know how hard a word is when it is used as a definition of itself.  Propitiation is propitiation but is also an appeasing such as for someone to appease the debt for a debtor.

There are more words you may not know the meaning of so I suggest you get a good Biblical Dictionary since a regular dictionary will not understand the spiritual meaning.

Each of these words is part of who the Living Word Jesus IS!  This is not what Jesus as the Word of God does but Who He is!

So if we sin, or should we say when we sin, God who is the one we sin against through Jesus as our advocate appeases God.  And not just for our sin, but the sins of the whole world.

Do you seek God’s help to not sin?  Do you seek through Jesus the appeasement of your sin?

Jonathan came over for supper and to celebrate Rebecca’s birthday.  We had an enjoyable time together.
