1  « A Psalm. A Song at the dedication of the house of David. » I will extol You, O LORD, for You have lifted me up, And have not let my foes rejoice over me. 2  O LORD my God, I cried out to You, And You healed me. 3  O LORD, You brought my soul up from the grave; You have kept me alive, that I should not go down to the pit. 4  Sing praise to the LORD, You saints of His, And give thanks at the remembrance of His holy name. 5  For His anger is but for a moment, His favor is for life; Weeping may endure for a night, But joy comes in the morning. 6  Now in my prosperity I said, “I shall never be moved.” 7  LORD, by Your favor You have made my mountain stand strong; You hid Your face, and I was troubled. 8  I cried out to You, O LORD; And to the LORD I made supplication: 9  “What profit is there in my blood, When I go down to the pit? Will the dust praise You? Will it declare Your truth? 10  Hear, O LORD, and have mercy on me; LORD, be my helper!” 11  You have turned for me my mourning into dancing; You have put off my sackcloth and clothed me with gladness, 12  To the end that my glory may sing praise to You and not be silent. O LORD my God, I will give thanks to You forever.” (Psalm 30:1-12 NKJV)

As Christians through Jesus we are part of the “house of David” and of the Kingdom of God.  Our history is not just 2,000 years old but goes back to David, Moses and even Adam and Eve!  Through Jesus we have become part of the lineage of redemption.

This Psalm is called “A Song at the dedication of the house of David. “ House could mean a building but it can also mean family and the generations that came before or after David.

David sings and extols the Lord as he remembers all the blessings of God and the many ways God protected him. The first part of this Psalm is not only David praising God but his call for the “Saints” to join in praising and giving thanks to God.

Seeing God’s faithfulness and blessing David knows by faith he will be able to stand strong in the days ahead. David knows there is trouble ahead but trusts God will see him through “Weeping may endure for a night, But joy comes in the morning.”

The second part of this Psalm could either be a prayer of deliverance or recognition of David’s own sinful nature.  David prays God would never leave him or forsake him!

David argues if he were to be taken into “the pit” he could not praise or extol God. This is shall we say a very interesting argument for God to save us!

But David does remind us of the truth we in the Church often forget that we were created to love and praise God. This is the central part, the core of what it means to not just be a Christian but to be human!

How important is it for you to praise and worship God? Do you believe God is faithful and though there will be times of weeping joy will overcome? When fear and trouble surrounds you do you cry out to God trusting God will deliver you?
