April 14, 2019 Sixth Sunday in Lent – Liturgy of the Passion
5 Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus, 6 who, being in the form of God, did not consider it robbery to be equal with God, 7 but made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bondservant, and coming in the likeness of men. 8 And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross. 9 Therefore God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name, 10 that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth, 11 and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.” (Philippians 2:5-11 NKJV)

If you want to truly understand what happened at the crucifixion of Jesus you must look at Psalm 22. To get a full description of Jesus you must look at Philippians 2. In this passage we can become acquainted with who Jesus really is.

People often talk about the “historical” Jesus or the “real” Jesus but what about the Biblical Jesus? We search for Jesus in dusty out of date books or even in our own imaginations but what about the book of books, the Bible? Does it seem important that those seeking the historical or the real Jesus often compare and contradict the Jesus revealed in the Bible?

Does it really matter whether you believe in the “historical”, the “real” or the Jesus of the Bible? Only if you want a Jesus to see you throughout this life and have the hope of an eternal relationship with God!

Choosing between the Living Word Jesus as seen in the Bible and any other “savior” is choosing who will save you. The choice is not who will save you but who can!

This passage ends with what can be a joy or a warning that “at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth, 11 and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.”

Will you declare the name of Jesus with joy, regret at Who you missed or through gritting teeth in hatred? That is your choice!!!
