“6
¶ Then God said, “Let there be a firmament in the midst of the
waters, and let it divide the waters from the waters.” 7 Thus God
made the firmament, and divided the waters which were under the
firmament from the waters which were above the firmament; and it was
so. 8 And God called the firmament Heaven. So the evening and the
morning were the second day.” (Genesis 1:6-8 NKJV)
“Then
God said”. God spoke and out of nothing it came to be
which is called ex nihlo. John chapter 1 names Jesus as the Living
Word of God and part of creating Creation.
The
word firmament means extended surface or expanse. It comes from the
root word to stamp, stretch or make broad. The word firmament here
seems to imply something between the waters on the dry land and
waters in the sky. This obviously is not what we consider land so
what could it mean?
It
is interesting to know the word for water came to mean chaos which is
the meaning of sin. If Jesus had power over the water what would
that mean to a Jew?
