“And the LORD God commanded the man, saying, “Of every tree of the garden you may freely eat; “but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die.”” (Genesis 2:16-17 NKJV)

There is only one simple commandment for Adam and Eve – to not eat from “the tree of the knowledge of good and evil”. Every other fruit from every other tree and all herbs man could eat from. Just this one tree was forbidden.

It is easy to wonder why? God created everything and proclaimed Creation was very good. Why were they forbidden to eat from this tree and why did God even create it?

God did not them to eat from this tree because God made them to know all good. Eating of the tree would only give them the knowledge of evil and not how to deal with evil.

The word die here means dying you will die. From birth we begin to die as we face death and no matter what we do we will get older and weaker until the day we die.
