“But
you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His
own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who
called you out of darkness into His marvelous light;” (1Peter 2:9
NKJV)
God
redeemed us from sin and darkness and those who have faith are
chosen, royal and holy! They become part of a generation, priesthood
and nation. They become God’s own, God’s people.
God
has not done this because we are special but in spite of it and God
did not do this because we deserve it but despite us not deserving
it.
Whenever
words like but and therefore are used we should look at what comes
before to see what it is there for! The verse before talks about
those who will stumble on Jesus because they are disobedient.
We
are redeemed or “called out” so we “may proclaim the
praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous
light;” We are not just called out from but are called to!
To praise God who has saved us from what we deserve and saves us to
what we do not deserve.
