“So,
entering a ship of Adramyttium, we put to sea, meaning to sail along
the coasts of Asia. Aristarchus, a Macedonian of Thessalonica, was
with us.” (Acts 27:2 NKJV)
Paul
is heading to Rome with Aristarchus and the we includes Luke. During
this time in history very few ships went far from shore and they used
very convoluted routes to keep close to shore in case of trouble.
We
are given a lot of information in this verse so a deeper look at some
of the important parts would be helpful.
Adramyttium
– is
a seaport of Mysia and the word means “I shall abide in death”
Asia
– at
this time Asia corresponded
to Turkey
Aristarchus
– his
name means “the best ruler”
This
is just a small part of a harrowing trip that competes with any
thriller movie. Again
and again it seems Paul will not complete the journey to Rome because
of danger. But
he will.
