Footwashing has interested me since Rev Alton Smith, my wife’s Grandfather and one of my mentors, told me some Methodist congregations still held Footwashing Services as a reminder of the call of Jesus for us to serve others as we are served by God. Saint Bernard taught our feet must be washed as we walk in a fallen world and so must be cleansed and as a reminder of our need for God’s continuing grace.
