I Don’t Understand.

We have this need to know, a need to understand. Everything has to make sense to us. Even in everyday life this is impossible. We cannot understand the ways and plans of others nevertheless ourselves. Life is full of inexplicable mysteries that are beyond our knowing or understanding. Yet we still persist in this need to understand.

This is even more ridiculous when we think about the things of God. Why do we wash feet? Why do we take Communion? Why bread and wine or juice? Or the even more impossible things like why did Jesus have to die for us? Why did Jesus die for us? These are questions we give ready answers to, but deep inside we know we really do not know or understand them.

If we are honest we are afraid. If we admit we do not know or understand than we are left without a firm footing for our lives. Our convincing ourselves we do understand keeps us in a semblance of balance that allows us to continue.

But life keeps challenging that view and for many we will come to a place where we are forced to face our downright ignorance. We fall and the world around us slips away. That is where we like Peter must call out to Jesus to reach out and keep us from sinking.

Only Jesus really knows and understands. So we stand on Him who knows and will lead us to the Truth. Holding onto Jesus means we do not have to understand but that over time we will! God will reveal to us much now and all when we see Him. So we hold on to Truth as we hold on to Jesus!

Understanding can never beget faith for understanding is the child of faith born through revelation by Jesus Christ!
